2 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

The speedometer is out of control. It will tell me I'm either going way faster than I am or it will tell me I'm going way slower than I am. It will reset itself if the car is off for twenty minutes or so but it will just happen again in a few days or hours. I don't feel safe driving in a car where I don't know what speed I'm going. Many others have had this same exact problem in their own 04 chevy Impalas. It's an ongoing problem that needs to be fixed.

3 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2012

I have been having issues with my speedometer sticking the past few months. My husband took my car in to our local chevy dealership and was told we need to replace the instrument control panel which would cost around $600. Not happy with the fact that we will have to shell out this kind of money for a faulty factory part, I contacted the Chevrolet customer complaint line. I was told by the complaint line that they could not do anything for us at this time. . Read more...

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

Speedometer does not display accurate miles per hour. While driving, the odometer went to about 60 mph, when I was going about 40 mph and I tried to decrease the speed by depressing the brake pedal but it remained at 60 mph. I came to a traffic light and stopped, then I noticed that the speed was at 10 mph while setting still. I asked another person to drive the car to see if the same type of thing was happening with the speed odometer, and it was. The vehicle was taken to the dealership. The mechanic said he reset the odometer and said if that did not work, a part will need to be replaced. That worked about two weeks, and the same thing started all over again. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because I can not tell how fast I am driving. Which poses a safety hazard.

5 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

While driving on the interstate to begin our vacation, the speedometer began showing increased speed while cruise control was set. We were going 65, but the speedometer eventually registered 120 mph. After cruise was turned off, it continued to read 120 mph, regardless of actual speed. We had to use our gps to monitor speed for the entire 1300 mile round trip! gm has recalled other models with the same problem. Why hasn't a recall been issued for the Impala?.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that has a huge amount of issues within the dash. My car shows that it is running hot when it is not. It also shows it has no gas when the tank is full. The newest issue is that my speedometer is now stuck on 80 when the car is parked and is well over the 120mph when I am driving on the highway. I have no idea how fast I am going. This is the worse of the three because I or someone could be injured by this. To have people on the road with unsafe vehicles and the manufacture not be held responsible is ridiculous to say the least. There are so many people having this issue and I am not sure why this has not. Been recalled. I hope it does not take someone being killed before someone does something!.

Last, on a 45 mph road I was traveling at 45 mph and suddenly my speedometer shot up to 75, despite my speed being maintained at 45 (per the gps unit). I had to get onto the freeway where it is 60 mph. Used my gps in order to go the correct speed limit. At a stop light and when parked, the speedometer now registers 75 mph. . Read more...

13 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2010

2004 Chevrolet Impala LS 3. 8 v6 my wife's car started having problems with the instrument cluster not showing the correct speed or tachometer readings. I went on some site to research the problem only to find that this is a problem with this make of auto for quite some time. In most cases Chevrolet has told the owners that the must pay for repairs costing as much as $1000. 00. This is unacceptable. If there a systematic failure of this system on the Impala then Chevrolet needs to correct it before someone thinking they are driving with-in the posted speed limits when in fact they may not be as there is a serious injury. Also found that there have been recalls on these cars. I am in the process of checking the partrs on my vehicle to see if it in fact was affected. I have never been notified wether it was or was not part of any recall. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

First the fuel gauge stopped working and was like that for a couple weeks, now it is working again, then speedometer went crazy, traveling at approximately 55 to 60 mph, speedometer is reading 15 to 20 mph then drops to 0 it has done this before, so I went online to see if anyone else was having the same problem and if there was a recall. 2004 chevy Impala: speedometer malfunctions, usually jumps to over 120 mph at freeway speeds but can read low or high. When stopped it currently is stuck at 67 mph. Tomorrow it may be 35 who knows. I feel this is a major safety issue.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala LS with an automatic transmission 3. 2 v6. The speedometer will stay on 70mph at rest or more then go over a 120mph when traveling. Once in awhile it may resume back to normal. It is a huge problem in not letting you know exactly what rate of speed you are traveling.

Speedometer was giving erratic readings and now has stopped working all together. I replaced speed sensor and it did not help. 22 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

While driving a consistant speed, speedometer will fluctuate from stuck at zero to 120mph. Happens constantly. Fuel guage fluctuates also and doesn't always work. If using cruise control while speed appears correct, the Impala will automatically increase its own speed while the speedometer does not change leaving an unsafe opportunity open for very tragic accidents to happen. I cannot beleive that my 2010 pontiac vibe has had 3 recalls and this Impala has not had any for the instrument panel. Do people really have to die or be injured before something is done to protect us?.

23 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I was driving my car down the road and all of the sudden my speedometer and water gauge stopped working. It said I was going 120 mph but I was only going about 30 mph. The next day I went out to the car and started it while it was parked and it was stuck on 30 mph and the temp gauge showed the needle in the red, but it was not started for more than a minute. I have read many complaints about this and this seems to be a familiar complaint.

24 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

2004 Chevrolet Impala speedometer quit working. It started registering a higher speed than the speed I was actually driving. It showed 90 mph when I was stopped. He said that the cluster was defective and it would cost approx. $500 to replace it.

26 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Traveling on a dangerous stretch of highway, my speedometer malfunctioned. It registered me as going 90 miles per hour. After several close calls, as conditions were icy, I judged a safe speed and pulled over at the next safest spot on the road. My speed gauge did not reset to 0 mph as normal, but stopped at 50 mph. Now my gas gauge and temp gauge malfunction as well, leaving me no way of knowing how much fuel is in my vehicle. Researching this problem, I noticed many other complaints to this issue. Contacting the manufacturer, I was informed my warranty is expired and they have no obligation to fix the safety problem.

32 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2009

Speedometer does not function correctly. Speedometer registers erratic speeds, going to speeds of 80, 90, 120+ for no apparent reason. Each time the automobile is turned off and turned on again, it usually will go down by about 10 mph. After several days, it will return to normal, but this pattern repeats after a day or so of registering correct mph. This started about a month ago. We have called Chevrolet and been advised to have the car checked at a deal for defective equipment, but have not been able to find a dealer who will respond to our call.

33 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. I have not been in a accident but I feel my problem could possibly cause one. The speedometer in my car started acting up recently. It is not accurate, it usually reads zero when I am driving but sometimes reads a speed that is clearly inaccurate. I did some research on it and found out it is a common problem with these cars and a very costly repair. At this point in time I cannot afford the repair so I just try to drive slow. This should be a recall.

34 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2009

Just driving down the road no specific road just normal driving and all of a sudden the speedometer either goes up or down does not have correct speed sometimes it will go back to normal after about an hour and sometimes after thirty minutes or after you shut the car off and restart. It happens about twice a week I have not replaced any parts as of yet trying to figure out what the problem is for sure. I am reading online that many people are having this problem and it is the gauges need to be replace and that there is a recall on chevy trucks but mine is a 2004 Impala and as of yet there is not one and there are many people very angry online regarding this matter and want a recall as soon as possible because the cost is about 600 - 800 dollars depending on where you go so they are using gps systems for there speed instead of getting it repaired since the cost is so high.
